Nireekshana: Desiring to be a blessing to the people of Andhra Pradesh, CBN launched Nireekshana to bring hope to the lives of one of the largest people’s group in South India. Nireekshana which means ‘hope’ has been on air since the year 2000. The show is extremely popular among the people of Andhra Pradesh. They are able to identify themselves with the people portrayed in this programme and are also led to find solutions to their own problems in Jesus Christ.
The 30 minute magazine format show deals with a contemporary issue in each of its episodes. The main segments in the programme are:
Prajavani (Vox Pop): Cutting across people from all walks of life and all age groups, this segment gives people an opportunity to express their opinion and viewpoints on the topic of the day.
Maa Nireekshana (Our Hope): This segment showcases the lives of simple and ordinary Indians facing problems often larger than themselves but overcoming them with the hope and strength they find in Jesus Christ.
Cheyutha (Touching Lives): The work of Operation Blessing India, CBN’s humanitarian arm is being highlighted in this segment where the team shares God’s love by reaching out to the people of India and its neighbouring countries.
A prayer and altar call is also part of the programme which is then followed by gospel music videos of popular Christian artists.
Nireekshana airs every Sunday evening at 5.30pm on TV 9, a popular news channel. There is a tremendous response to the show and it is highly appreciated by its viewers.
Edward Williams – Since 2000, Edward Williams Kuntam has been hosting Nireekshana. He works as a student counselor (staff) with Union of Evangelical Students of India [UESI]. He was the State Secretary of Andhra Pradesh till 2006. He is now studying MA in Theology at SAIACS, Bangalore. His wife, Christy is also studying theology with him. His daughters Sharon and Ruth are in studying at Bangalore. Edward Williams has reached out to millions of Telugu viewers with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
