Hinduism is the religion followed by the majority in our country. Let us see how the Hindus perceive Jesus and what they believe about who He is. Although Jesus is not mentioned in the Hindu scriptures we find that some of the great Hindu thinkers have written about Him in the last few centuries.
They say that Jesus was one of the incarnations (avatars) of God. Most Hindus believe that God, specifically Vishnu, took on human or animal forms at various times in order to perform certain feats that would preserve true Hindu teachings (the dharma). In this context, it has been argued that Jesus, along with Rama, Krishna and others, was another divine self-embodiment. While Christians believe that Jesus is the one and only incarnation of God, the Hindu view holds that he was one of the incarnations and not the only one.
In fact some of the Hindu thinkers go on to say that Jesus being one of the incarnations of God came to India and learned from the Hindu gurus during His silent years (from the age of 12 years to 30 years) and then went back to Palestine and taught what He had learnt. However, this is not true because we can see that what Jesus taught was completely different to Hindu teachings and He certainly did not teach the Hindu dharma. Since Jesus is the only way to God and His teachings are true, He could not have been one of several ways to God because He Himself said He was the only way to God. Thus, the idea of some Hindus to incorporate Jesus is forced and not true.
In contrast when we look at Islam we find that the Muslims believe that Isa (Jesus) was sent down as a Prophet of Allah (God), but they believe that He (Jesus) is not God or Lord nor do they accept Him as the Son of God. Muslims do not believe that Isa (Jesus) had died or was ever crucified. They believe that He was raised to heaven and is there, and will descend at the appointed time to end all wars and bring peace to the world.
