Zubin finds a new friend

When Zubin shifted to a new city, he was very sad to leave his old friends behind. His mother told him not to worry. She said that he should try to make new friends in the new place. Zubin was not so good at talking to people that he didn’t know. He wasn’t sure that he could make new friends there.

When Zubin’s family reached the new house they were happy to see that the neighborhood looked nice and clean. There was no garbage around, children were cycling on the streets and it seemed peaceful and quiet. The biggest surprise for Zubin was yet to come.

As they began to take their belongings into the house, someone walked in with something in her hand. ‘Hi there! I just came to say Hello! We are your next-door neighbors. We thought you might need some milk and food, you must be really tired today…’ she said. ‘Oh dear! It is so kind of you! Thank you so much!!!’ Zubin’s mother exclaimed.

“My name is Martha, nice to meet you,’ the lady said. She saw Zubin standing behind his mother shyly and said, ‘I have a son who is about your age… I’m sure you could join him when he plays with his friends…’ Her smile filled her face and Zubin smiled back at her too. Though Zubin felt reluctant, he felt better after Martha invited him to be her son’s friend. Slowly he built confidence and went out to meet their neighbor Martha’s son, Robert.

Robert was as friend to Zubin as his mother was. He shared his toys with Zubin and invited him to join his group of friends who played in the park every evening. Zubin liked Robert and he told him about the toys he had too. They made plans to play together and soon Zubin was able to make friends with all the boys in the neighborhood.

A good neighbor is kind, generous and understanding in nature. It doesn’t take much to be a good neighbor – it is simply understanding that when someone around has a need we should help them. This kind of attitude and thinking will make the neighborhood you live - a peaceful and happy place. Who wouldn’t appreciate having a good neighbor and living in a good neighborhood?

If you want a good neighbor – you would need to learn to be one too.
