When we see someone who shares a special relationship with God, someone who is so close to God that their every prayer seems to be answered, someone who does amazing things through God’s power, someone who has patience, love and kindness in extra-ordinary measures and who stand up for God no matter what they go through, we might wonder if we could ever become that close to Him. We wonder how we could become close to God. Is there a magic formula? Or does it depend totally on God, on being chosen by Him?

It is true that God made a plan for our redemption already and our salvation is something that comes free of cost for everyone who believes this truth. God’s desire is that every soul is saved. That is why He commissioned His disciples “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” Mathew 28:19. No one is excluded from that will. But there is something more we need to do to come closer to him.

James says “Come near to God and he will come near to you.” (James 4:8). Even the prodigal son had to come back to his father, before he could experience the depth of his father’s love.

Our first step to experiencing God’s love is to take a step towards him. No matter what condition you are in, forget the hard realities about your situation and trust in God’s goodness and His love for you. Does God, who did not spare His own son need to do more to show that He loves you? Its time you showed you value that love. Walk towards God, He will never leave you nor forsake you.
